Excuse me, Sir

At ting, respect doesn’t come with hierarchy. It comes with a simple word everyone shares.

“What’s up sir, welcome to ting.”

It doesn’t matter who you are.

Copywriter. Designer. CEO. Account manager. AVP. SCD. Intern. Office staff. Client. Visitor. Someone who accidentally walked in because the building is so yellow.

If you walk into ting, you’re getting called sir.

There are a lot of things that make ting… ting. The colour. The energy. The chaos. The people.

But one of my favourite things is this one tiny word we use for everyone: sir.

Week one, it’s confusing.

You’re like, “It’s okay, just call me by my name,” because honestly, itna respect life main nahi mila hai.

You correct people.

You feel awkward.

You laugh it off.

Then, somewhere between your first coffee and your first internal meeting, it clicks.

Everyone is sir.

And suddenly, ting starts feeling like home.

You hear it everywhere.

“Congrats sir.”

“Internet is not working sir.”

“Sir, when is the ting party, sir?”

I still remember the first time I welcomed someone new into the team and called them sir.

They just froze. Question marks all over their face.

I get it. We’ve all been there. At first, it feels formal. Almost too respectful. But the more you hear it, the more you realise it’s not about hierarchy. It’s about equality.

That’s when it hits you. Oh. Everyone here is sir, and that moment alone explains ting better than any deck ever could.

Once you start using “sir” like it’s someone’s last name, something shifts. Titles dissolve. Seniority softens. Everyone’s just… people.

My personal favourite sir moment happens every single morning. Umesh Sir - our office staff. The first smile I see when I walk in. He hits me with a bright, cheerful “Morning sir,” and I respond with an equally enthusiastic “Morning sir.” If my day doesn’t start with that exchange, I will happily turn around and go back home.

We grow up learning that “sir” equals respect. But usually, that respect only flows in one direction - Senior. Male. Authority.

But, at ting, it goes everywhere.

Same word. Same tone. Same energy.

For everyone.
